Thinking about buying a used 16' aluminum boat.

I don't know how old it is, but do know it is made from commercial aluminum or it is a commercially rated aluminum boat. I am going to try and drive to take a look at it in the next couple of weeks. What should I look for?
Also has a 40 evinrude on the back that looks like it is from the 80's, not sure if it runs yet. Will try and upload a picture later.

A 40 HP ought to push it pretty good. So obviously when you drive it hang on Sloopy, Sloopy hang on.

HA, not sure if it runs though. It might need some TLC.

Hopefully it's an allwelded boat,no joints and rivets. Check the transom real good for cracks or bending. If it has decks check for wood rot. I fished out of an old 17' express for 20 years in the bayous, if its in decent shape it should do you right.

It is an alwelded boat if I remember correctly. It was my Paw Paws old boat he sold to someone and I might buy it back. Here is a pic.

Sounds like one I saw on La Sportman and I was very tempted. Did it look like the wood on the floor needed to be replaced? If so it looks worth the trip to at least see it.
EDIT: Just saw the pic. Like the girl says when you're young and trying to stick it in, "That's not it."

I think the floor and decks may be fiberglassed. I'm more worried about the motor being a POS. If I did pull the trigger on it, I would need a trailer as the axle is broken on the original trailer. Boat and motor are cheap.

was thinking about that, I have to see if the owner wants the trailer or not.

Apparently they have been using the boat to store shite on top off it.

New axle, bearing, hubs, springs, cost around $200.

How tall are you people? That seat looks 4+ feet high and it as at it's lowest.

that front pedestal is at full erection. you can name this boat "the Erector" when you get it, there, it's settled....

Man I love the hull.
Is that Grand Chenier?

I like the haul and the 2 platforms on it as well. No it is not grand chenier. I know I would eventually have to re-power, just has sentimental value as it was our family boat, not to mention it would tear reds up in the marsh and thats all I want to do.
