Had a few Joy Division albums and never really gave New Order a shot until this weekend. Picked up Movement, Brotherhood, and Power, Corruption & Lies. So much good stuff.
Bizarre Love Triangle is an awesome track.

I always really liked New Order. 2001's "Get Ready" is underrated, and their old stuff is certainly classic.
I also liked the work Bernard Sumner did with Johnny Marr in Electronic

There was a good New Order thread about a year or so ago.
Is great. My preference. Technique isn't bad.
I'll point out again, that 2001's Get Ready is outstanding if you're a New Order fan. IN fact, i was surprised how good it was when I first listened to it.
Also, Peter Hook just released a book about Joy Division.

Second all time favorite band behind Depeche.
They have had great releases all through their very long career. Often b-sides or non album tracks are better than the singles or album cuts. (Touched by the Hand of God, Brutal, Sabotage, Here to Stary, Player in the League)
Get Ready plus b-sides was a great "comeback" of sorts. Give a listen to Substance as well as Republic to catch you up to the mid 90's

I wonder if Joy Division would have started making brighter, dancier stuff. Probably not, as Ian Curtis seemed like a downer but who knows maybe he would have grown out of that nasty depression.
Either way, two great bands. Sad that one was made out of tragedy.

Brotherhood was one of the albums I listed in the "most influential in your choice of music" thread.
That and Depeche Mode 101 started me down the path of EDM music I'm still on today.
I love to chill listening to Vanishing Point (especially the reprise in the last quarter of the song).
ETA:
It's on their Technique album in case you were looking for it.

Movement is by far my favorite of theirs. Some of those songs could've easily been Joy Division songs. I.C.B. off of Movement is such a great tune.

I'll probably get Technique tonight. Nothing beats having a bunch of new stuff to listen to.

Round and Round, True Faith and I always loved this remix of Crystal:

New Order was my favorite band from the late 80's through the mid 90's. Substance was my intro to them; Technique cemented them as my favorite; from there I slowly worked backwards, acquiring 'Power, Corruption & Lies', Movement, etc. And then to Joy Division, which I also love.
I prefer their moodier stuff, from Movement through Substance. Although I really do like Technique, which, on the whole, I consider more emotionally upbeat, as well as uptempo... maybe more emotionally detached would be more correct than calling it upbeat.
I found Republic okay in the early 90's, but their sound started getting too bright and jangly for my tastes from that point on. I think it makes them unbalanced and the excessive high pitch makes it harder to listen to for more than a few songs without getting an urge to change to something else. I haven't really listened closely to Republic or newer in a while, though, so my memory might not be as accurate as I think it is, and might change if I revisited their music.
I think some of their songs... notably popular ones like Bizzare Love Triangle and True Faith stand the test of time pretty well; and so does the album Movement... at least in my opinion. Other songs I used to love, like Blue Monday, sound a little dated to me now. Again... just my opinion.

speaking of standing the test of time, though I preferred New Order to Depeche Mode by a hair at the time, my favorite song from that period and genre is DM's Never Let Me Down Again:

I still become totally enrapt when I hear it. To me, it's just one of those complete songs, and has such an expansive, epic quality that it grabs you and by the time it's over, you feel almost the same as when you've read a book.

I love New Order. Bizarre Love Triangle is a timeless, 80s classic. Crystal was a great "punk" sound for the band.
The Killers got their name from the Crystal music video.

Cannot believe Love Vigilantes has not been mentioned yet. Love that song.
While I also like Bizarre Love Triangle, I actually prefer Frente's cover.

I believe Blue Monday is still the biggest selling 12" single to date. It took me awhile to get that song, until i heard it in its proper atmosphere. Speaking of atmosphere, New Order fans must watch this 1981 concert. It was after Ian Curtis had passed, and they had not released Blue Monday yet. Still sounding like Joy Division at this point.

There was a live stream of DJs spinning nothing but New Order, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, and The Cure songs from a nightclub this past saturday. They called it Bizarre Love Fest.
