re: How to fix the dunk contest.

You haven't watched for years... And yet you want to fix the contest... how else have you formed this opinion? Twitter?

I quit making it a point to watch because it was no longer an entertaining event. I have, however, watched replays and highlights.

Your argument is, no need to change because people watch. However, if people don't still watch, then how can they know it needs to be fixed? How many times are you going to take that loop?

Were you entertained during this year's dunk contest?

Are you just trying to be a dick?

Have you used terms like "confirmation bias" to attempt to sound smarter than you are in a conversation about the fricking dunk contest?

let's just go back in time and remember that dee brown and ced ceballos have iconic dunk contest dunks

...that were not difficult at all and involved props

i will bring up my idea from years ago. They need to have a slam dunk competition the week before the all star break involving street ballers. Winner of that gets to compete against the NBA players.

NBA Ballers vs Street Ballers is what I've always wanted to see.

The last good dunk contest was when MJ was in it. It will never be the same.

The start of the decline. In my view, 85-90 was the golden era of the dunk contest. Vince Carter and Jason Richardson breathed some new life into it, but the NBA has since been searching for a formula to get it right and I don't think they have found it.

Much of the problem is that most of the dunks that can be done, have. There is no novelty. It takes more to impress us than it did years ago. Another part of the problem is that the stars don't participate. The props and shot clock are detrimental as well.

I like that idea. NBA is too protective of its brand to do it though.

people have been begging for him to make a contest for years and years

Also, Jordan gets some credit for actually jumping from the free line while most that do it always step just inside it.

Serge Ibaka jumped from farther away than Jordan did and people weren't that impressed with it. He didn't even get a 50.

Dunkers are trying to go above and beyond with difficulty in order to be impressive nowadays. Terrence Ross showed that you can win a contest without excessive props or showmanship, but the dunks he had to do were very difficult.

I was. Ross and Evans had some nice dunks the entire night. Gerald Green's first dunk was really good, as were Bledsoe and Faried's second dunks. James White was the only guy that didn't have at least one dunk that I was impressed by.

Because he looks bad doing it. His height hurts him as it doesn't look as good as Jordan's when he pumped the ball with one hand. Still impressive, but I can see why people didn't give it a 50.

Ibaka's reminds me of a slightly worse version of Dr. J's or Jordan's first free throw line dunk. He was 20 or so years too late.

re: How to fix the dunk contest.
bTW I don't have a problem with props, as long as it helps the dunk.

Dwight Howard wearing a superman cape doesn't make his dunks better, and I thought it was kinda stupid that people went nuts for a couple of his dunks that year. Same with Nate Robinson's kryptonie shite...the idea was funny/cool, but the dunks arent any better because of it. But Gerald Green actually blowing out a candle on a cupcake on the back of the rim, that's cool because it showcases how high he jumped. Howard putting the sticker on the backboard (which people didn't even realize at the time IIRC) was cool.

So props are okay as long as they're used to make the actual dunk better IMO.

Damn, I know that. Not sure why I typed Wallace (maybe because I watched some of SFP's vids before posting).
