Does anyone have any experience going out there? I've been off the side of the road a few time, but interested in taking my flatboat and pirogue to get to some of the more untapped areas. I'll probably wait til mid march when the temps warm a little bit, but trying to get a plan together.

Never been out to Honey Island, but we used to do okay in the Spillway and along side roads around Laplace and off of 61 random places. We did well every time except one. Weren't catching good in the morning with my two buddies so we went and got 3 cases of beer. By sunset we were all passed out in the car with no beer left. Don't do that. I think we caught half of a sack the entire day

Run nets in honey island every year. I'm not gonna tell you my specific spot because, well, it's mine.

After the first few good rain in the spring though pretty much anywhere will have a good amount.

Can you tell me what to look for in a spot without divulging yours? Like I said in the op, I have a flatboat and pirogue. My thoughts were to get to a place where I could get out into the pirogues into the shallows. I have deepwater and shallow nets. Isn't there a place to launch off military?

Considering that my step dad owns honey island swamp tours, I'd say yah I have a little experience.

Haven't been in a while though.

The swamp is over flood stage. Was over 17 feet yesterday.

Trying to find a spot where no one is? good luck

Plenty of spots though and HIS provides plenty of crawfish

My friend runs a boat for Cajun Encounters. We do good on crawfishing from pirouges and basket nets set back in the shallow swamps. We'll pull about 2 1/2 sacks from about 35 basket traps.

pillow traps-

basket traps are better for the swamps, pillow traps are primarily for farming.. even though i use them in the creeks/rivers up here all the time
