a coupla things on trading back-
1. First it has to be if who is on the board doesn't match up to your value estimates
2. Ya gotta have a trade partner. Sometimes you can be in prime position (say for a QB this year) or no one really wants to jump up for a particular player at your spot.
3. There must be a good outlook as to who you might get later. Sam Montgomery may not be THE perfect 3-4OB you were shooting for. But who might project into the range of the pick you get? Would you prefer trading and hope to kill 2 birds with one stone? Say NT Jenkins, as mentioned, then Alex Okafor with a 2nd picked up?
Trades are fun to speculate but so many factors go into it that I don't think it's worth our time or effort.
Question: Has Loomis ever traded back in a draft?
Finally, please anyone speculating trades please use the draft pick value chart
Another cool tool is a draft pick calculator
PS- NO team is giving anything for Will Smith, Vilma, Harper, etc. If we are talkin players potentially to be cut why would any team give anything? Well maybe a Jonathan Amaya & a 6th rder- at best. (I still think that is one of the alltime best from Loomis)
