I'm looking into mini-split systems now. I have one in a MIL suite at home. It works well but was expensive up front. Can't tell how efficient it is but literature boasts long term savings. The MIL install was just convenient due to the particulars of location, sizing, and elimination of the need for ductwork in this case.
