don't get/understand them

This is how people dismiss justified and fair criticisms of their favorite movies.

There are good artistic movies. And there are bad ones. For instance, Drive was a good one, and The Tree of Life was a bad one (my opinions of the two, of course). I can "get/understand" a movie and still dislike it.

ETA: Eraserhead is a movie I dislike and don't get.

I definitely classify those as more films than movies.

Touche. Haha the opposite is true for me with those movies. Like you said, your opinion. Completely fair. Honestly one movie that I watched recently rubbed me, personally, as being a little pretentious. That movie was Adaptation. Charlie Kaufman was actually supposed to write a script for the Orchid Thief, instead he made it all about himself basically. Still a good movie but at first glance I thought the idea of it was pretentious. I just think sometimes people use the "P" word a little too soon.

Also, no one can blame someone for not getting Eraserhead. A second viewing and maybe some research is required to understand it.

Exactly what I was getting at. I just hate when someone says "well you just didn't get it".
