Are you using Commander?
Also, the server is now updated to 1.7.6

I had the same thing happen. Download the dayz commander on dayzmod.com. Then you can update the arma 2 and dayz though dayz commander.
It just doesn't work if you download dayz though steam.

when I run the exe to install commander, it says "There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

make sure u run dayz commander and steam as admin
also, within steam, you may have to "verify cache integrity" by right clicking on Arma2 Combined Ops.

Yea in a little bit but I have to do some stuff to the server files when I do get on for 1.7.6 to work fully.

I thought about getting into the DayZ action, but im not software smart and all the steps seems like it's way too much to go through to get the game.

done. Install which maps you want through dayz commander.
ETA: Like is said above, run arma 2 vanilla (no mods installed) then run arma 2 operation arrowhead (no mods installed).
Download day z commander
go to install /update 
Then download the arma 2 patch and the first day z mod.
