Inshore fishing question

I am looking for a good all-around rod and spinning reel setup to fish trout and redfish for between $100 - $150. Either a combo or separate rod and reel. Preferably, light to medium action on the rod. Any thoughts/opinions from the wids OB'rs are appreciated.

Shimano Sedona and an Allstar rod

saltwater will destroy that mettle, I speak from personal experience. Get a Penn reel

That shimano sedona is a good reel for the money, but dont go bigger than the 3000 model. Shimanos Clarus rods are good inexpensive rods.
Those h2o mettle reels might get you 2 or 3 good years max around salt water. Mine just went kaput.

Grew up fishing spinning reels. Like the look of casting but never fished with one. Why the aversion to spinning?

Don't worry about it. All I fish with is spinning reels and I have caught tons of fish.
I can throw a bait caster but prefer a spinning reel. Who cares what other think. Fish with what you like.
My combo of choice is a ABU Garcia Cardinal 503 ALBI with an All Star 7 foot medium action rod.
I use Berkeley Big Game green 12 pound test.
If you are going for larger Reds then use 30 pound braid..
Good Luck..

I use the shimano symetre with st Croix tidemaster or mojo rods and also falcon coastal rods. Maybe a little more than what youre looking for but been fishing them for years with no problems at all.

I've looked at the symetre, just want to see if I can find a comparable for less.

Shimano Symetre and an Allstar rod
All Star rods are nice, or Falcon Coastal. Something like that.

I also have the Mojo with my Symetres on them. Very nice combo, but unless you catch the Symetre on sale, you're looking at $200+ for that combo. Great rigs though.

If you are trying to save a little cash then go to cabelas and get the older model shimano sahara clamshell pack for $50 or new model Sahara for $80. Older one is fine, bought my wife one two yrs ago and holds up well no problem. Biggest difference between that and symetre is ball bearings. The symetre casts smoother and a little further though.
