Mobile Congressman and Biloxi Congressman have written and demanded the Interior Dept stop their destruction of the rigs, citing the killing of thousands of pounds of snapper and the habitat they rely on to survive.

For those that fish offshore. Make sure you mark rigs on your GPS or find a old map with the rigs numbers. I had fished spots that rigs once were there and cought the shite out of fish off of trash that was left behine.

But yes, they need to stop taking the rigs down or cut them off 40' from the surface.

New regs require complete removal below seafloor. They go over the area dragging a shrimp net on grid lines. Very little if anything is left.

Here's a pdf of the letter Rep's Bonner-Mobile and Representative Palazzo wrote to Salazar, the Sec of the Interior:

quote:

U.S. Reps. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, and Steven Palazzo, R-Biloxi, referenced the vote in a letter sent Friday to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar in which they demanded the government immediately stop its oil rig removal policy.

“At the same time one federal agency is restricting fishing for the preeminent target fish species in the Gulf, another – yours – is literally killing thousands of pounds of fish and destroying the habitat on which they rely,” wrote Bonner and Palazzo. “Certainly, Mr. Secretary, you see the hypocrisy here. These fish are the economic life-blood for thousands of our constituents along the Gulf of Mexico, and this insanity must stop – immediately.”
