Help me out. Is the decision for a grayshirt to enroll in fall classes:
Pro
Walk on to the team and get coaching and weight training.
Con
Starts eligibility clock and leaves you with only 4 to play 4, instead of 5 to play 4 if one waits until the spring.
ETA: obviously aside from financial considerations and the fact that one will graduate sooner and the question of what one does for a semester of sitting out.

The only con of a grey shirt is that the player has to pay his own way his 1st semester at school. His eligibility doesn't start for a full year after it would have with a normal offer. If you happen to be injured and expect no chance of even practicing your 1st semester at school......you NEED to take a greyshirt. It only helps you, otherwise you would have wasted your redshirt without even being able to practice.
When you are on greyshirt....you are not part of the team so you don't go to practice and training and all that. But you can use that time to heal or train outside school.
