Why not just kill them? I understand the recreation aspect of it and if you kill them off in an area you wont have anything to hunt. Just pisses me off when I kill a hog rooting up my food plot, cleaning out my corn pile, or possible cleaned out several turkey nest and that bastard has marked ears.

Years ago. When my dad and his brothers were growing up they ran them for the meat. Our family had it's own registered mark and the other families in that area had theirs as well. That way you knew if you could kill that hog or not. I haven't marked a hog in 10 years and most of the ones they catch now they either killed immediately or put into a pen to fatten up for slaughter. I even remember as a kid going to buy a "blooded" hog to release into the herd to improve the blood lines.

You have to remember, when my dad was a kid, there were no deer in that area of North Louisiana. He grew up in a very remote area and didn't kill his first deer until he was 18. There were no range laws so people let their cattle and hogs go wherever. It's a different world now and they wish the hogs were gone. But in the 30's and 40's, if you were poor and there were no large prey animals, you did what you could to put food on the table.
