That's legit. Especially for songwriting.

Anyone mentioned What's Goin' On yet?

Agreed. Despite being considered "crossover" at the time, country and western from the late 70's and early 80's has really held up. Kenny Rogers, Glen Campbell, really early George Strait and Randy Travis.

First song I knew by heart. Well, it was either that or Me and You and a Dog Named Boo.

Pancho and Lefty
Allman Bros - Amy
Grateful Dead - Loser, Truckin, or Friend of the Devil
Robert Johnson - Me & The Devil
Zepp- Ramble On

Too subjective to pick one.

I'm not the biggest Beach Boys fan outside of Pet Sounds, but I think God Only Knows is probably the best song...ever.

If I had to pick one it would be Imagine.

Definitely in the running. I'll add Snowing on Raton and To Live's to Fly to that.

Pretty impossible subject but also:

Sam Stone - John Prine
City of New Orleans - Arlo Guthrie
Tear Stained Eye - Son Volt
Domino - Van Morrison
Willin - Little Feat
A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker cover
Our Town - Iris Dement

And sure - Wagon Wheel is pretty damn good.

ETA:

You Never Even Called Me By My Name - Steve Goodman
London Homesick Blues - Gary P None
A Quick One While He's Away - The Who
Franklin's Tower - Grateful Dead
Uncle Remus - Frank Zappa

OK, time to just stop.

Argh - Can't leave Neil Young off the list. Take your pick of Heart of Gold, Harvest Moon, After the Goldrush, Powderfinger....

Oh, and Gram Parsons - Return of the Grievous Angel

Yeah, this is impossible.

It's a masterpiece, and a timeless song.
