They saw me clear as day. If I yelled anything it would me cussing and backing up slowing facing them. My problem is sometimes I walk next to recently cleared timber and have absolutely no where to hide or run. I have shot handguns before and I duck and dove hunt for the past 10 years.

I wouldn't back down unless you absolutely had to. Yell in a loud, clear voice. Show you are human. Basically, assert your authority!
I am in the woods (where there are a lot of hogs) all the time and outside of hunting season, I never carry a gun. They are just as frightened of people as any other prey animal.
