Yesterday while walking on an old logging road I came across three pigs. One of the pigs charged and I haul arse into a deer stand. I waited for over 40 minutes for the pigs to leave.

Did you yell at the pigs to identify yourself as a human? The reason why I ask is that is very rare for a pig to charge without some provocation. Usually the biggest, baddest hog will run if it knows it is dealing with a human. The times I have been run up a tree have usually involved having squirrel dogs getting a bunch of hogs riled up and then running straight back at me with the herd of hogs in tow.

In any event, if you have no handgun experience and if you don't do a lot of shooting of any kind, you are much better off retreating than trying to stand your ground against charging hogs. The chance of you getting a instant kill shot are very remote and you are just allowing them to get closer to you, eliminating the possibility of a safe retreat.

They saw me clear as day. If I yelled anything it would me cussing and backing up slowing facing them. My problem is sometimes I walk next to recently cleared timber and have absolutely no where to hide or run. I have shot handguns before and I duck and dove hunt for the past 10 years.
