I probably saw around 10 pigs so far in the woods but I'm usually over 100 yards away from them. So the consensus is a 357 magnum? What brand would you recommend? If it helps, I would like to get a conceal weapons permit and also take it to the gun range ever once in a while.

Also, 10mm can shoot flatter than a 357 to 100yds. I shot I guess it was a 4" group at 100. My dad has gone 150 when he had it scoped

I posted the S&W b/c you said $1000, but I would probably buy a Taurus to be honest. Spend the balance on 100 rounds of 22LR.

I would choose a pistol that you'd be comfortable with for home defense too. Chances are you'll never have pigs chase you again; therefore, get a gun you'd have other use for too.

A .357 could still be a great choice here but I would go with a G17 or G23 for what I said above.

Should lightning strike twice, you'd be able to manage that situation even with a 9mm. If you get stuck in a tree and the pig keeps you at bay you'll eventually get a good shot with that many.
