Not a bad idea Blu has.
But I look at it as to where the biggest unknowns are. CSP knows what he has on the o-line. He knows a little bout what he has on the d-line and secondary as well. He knows he has one great MLB. To me the biggest unknown on this team is at OLB. There just isn't anyone there who's played a 3-4 in the NFL. After left OT this is where I would focus first in FA and that is not a very deep crop then address in the draft 1st and foremost.

I think you use you early round picks to address current weaknesses,and hopefully the depth built with mid/late round picks can step in if you absolutely cannot sign bushmaster.
You would be improving the weakness by adding Kruger.
It's would you prefer Kruger and lane Bryant vs resigning bushrod and which ever pass rushing de you would take at 15.
Personally I don't trust brown to protect Brees' blindside. Not to mention there's also uncertainty at rt. You can throw away the plug and play theory with what we currently have. We'll have to see what's on the market come free agency.

Sorry blues, but pass rusher is #1 on my board unless we can get Jockel at 15. Besides, there should be a lot of tackles available with out 3rd round pick:

There's a good chance that every guy you listed will play RT or guard in the NFL. I know Long moved to guard mid last season, Watson played exclusively RT, and Pugh is widely expected to move inside ( LINK). Faulk played mostly LT, but that was on a run-run-pass offense. It's going to be easier to find an adequate rush linebacker in the 3rd round than a LT.

I agree with you.
We have been able to plug and play on the OL and not miss a beat. BDLP, Stinch, Streif, Bushrod, Evans, Nicks. Brees makes all of those guys.
If we have a chance to bring in a young, up and coming 3-4 guy like Kruger, you have to jump on it. Especially since he has experience there and next year will be the first year run it. He can almost be like a coach on the field.

If Bushrod doesn't resign, I would not trust any of these guys to protect Brees' Blindside. Like somebody has mentioned, most of these guys won't even sniff playing LT. You can take Pugh off the list, he won't ever play tackle.
There's question marks at RT, we don't need a LT issue. Charlie Brown isn't the answer at LT, either. It'll be an interesting Free Agency Season.

I have said from the start that if Bushrod demands top dollar which he will, then let him walk. Let someone like detroit or Cincy pay him to be average. Use the money from Bushrod and whatever money you gain in restructuring deals to get a big time pass rusher in FA. If the money is there, people will want to come play with Brees and Payton. Getting a good DC from Baltimore or San Fran would only help to lure in top pass rushers.

That's where I disagree. Not a lot of elite pass rushers in later rounds. But you can get guys like Strief, Bushrod, Nicks & Evans in later rounds.

The Super Bowl champion Ravens will have some interesting roster decisions to make given their salary cap restraints. One front office man who has been studying their roster believes general manager Ozzie Newsome will find a way to retain inside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, safety Ed Reed and of course quarterback Joe Flacco. That means among those who could play elsewhere next year are defensive end Paul Kruger, cornerback Cary Williams and offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie.

Dude has some miles on him at age 33 but looked solid at the end of the year. Dig this- His 2 yr deal with the Ravens was for $7.5mil. That is significantly cheaper (and will be less if anything) than what Bushhog will cost to re-sign. He might be a legitimate LT option until Brown or some other young guy can fill the spot. Or maybe a twofer with Kruger.

No one have any thoughts on McKinnie as a different LT option? He seems like a great vet filler for a year or two IMO.
One thing I am somewhat fearful of is giving Bushrod too big of a deal. The follow up contracts to keep some players have been some of the worst decisions in the Payton era IMO. We would have been better served than what they paid to keep Charles Grant, Will Smith and Harper around. I love some Colston but I'm not sure of the new deal on him either. He turns 30 this year. His cap hit this & coming years are- $6.6mil, 7.6mil, 9mil, & 9.8mil.

McKinnie has a good resume. The shakeup of the Ravens O-line and inserting him as the LT is widely recognized as one of the keys to the Ravens late season surge. Weight has been is biggest issue to deal with.

I could see Mckinnie as a viable option. As far as I'm concerned unless the LT position is addressed during the free agency period that would have to be the #1 priority in the draft. And with all of the chatter about the big three draft choices, who's to say any of them would even be there with the 15th pick.
And while Bushrod is adequate, he's definitely going to get more than adequate money before long.

Considering we have two of the most effective rush per play players (according to PFF), maybe we should give them a shot since they're already here and we don't have much money to spend in free agency.
