prior to crashing I leveled out, and looked at my map for a couple minutes before going back to flying. I did the same thing, but I had obviously went to a lower altitude before going back to my map, then I pulled a John Denver. Other than that, the plan was really easy to fly.
BTW, stranger danger is back online. I played during the day yesterday, and toured the mid map country side, and made my way up to the big airbase on Chenarus. Then got fricked up by zombies.
