I am looking for a fall deer hunting trip to take somewhere with my Dad and a few others. This trip could be anywhere from 3 to 6 guys. Money is not an object, but we have collectively decided that we would rather go more primitive this coming year than lodge/ guide/ etc. We are thinking something along the lines of boating up the MS or Missouri River, staying in tents for a week, and living off of the land.

I have been researching public lands in Missouri as well as Kentucky. The reason for these two states is due to the OTC license availability, in lieu of being drawn for tags. I am getting more and more excited about spending a week in the woods in a remote location without cell service and most importantly spending more time with my Old Man.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a trip such as this? We would either do primitive weapon or gun hunt, and have open availability.

Think i'd look into an elk hunt in NM but i'd have to pack some food cause i don't believe i could live off the land there & hunting elk.

Dad has been out west at least 10 times. He and I would rather whitetail hunt at this point.

I want to go out West and do a full-guided excursion to kill a huge elk one day. That is low on the bucket list right now however.
