It's about that time boys. Pitchers and catchers report to camp in a little more than a week. How bout a little discussion? To recap the off season thus far:

New Unis!

American League

Player Moves:

~Claimed RHP Phillip Humber on waivers from White Sox.

~Traded RP Wilton Lopez to Rockies for SP Alex White and minor leaguers.

~Signed free agent 1B/DH Carlos Pena previously with Rays.

~Acquired RHP John Ely from the Dodgers for minor league pitcher Rob Rasmussen.

~Signed FA RP Jose Veras previously with Brewers.

~Invited OF Rick Ankiel to spring training as a non-roster invitee.

~Signed veteran LHP Erik Bedard to a minor league deal with Spring Training invite.

Other news & notes

~TV color man Jim "J.D." Deshaies has moved on to the same position with the Chicago Cubs. His role will be filled by former Astros catcher Alan Ashby. Current play-by-play man Bill "Brownie" Brown is returning but intends to scale back his duties to around 100 games in 2013. For these games, Ashby will slide over to play-by-play and he'll be joined by former Astro Geoff Blum in the color commentary.

~Jonathon Singleton (who was named the top first base prospect in the game by MLB.com) was suspended 50 minor league games for a 2nd positive test for marijuana. He can be added to the 40 man roster and promoted to the majors and avoid the suspension. It appears the Astros intend for him to serve the suspension and start the year off in the minors after 50 games.

~Its a bit early to get into draft talks for 1.1 but some of the early names being floated are Stanford P Mark Appel, Arkansas pitcher Ryan Stanek, Indiana State P Sean Manea, HS players Austin Meadows and Clint Frazier.

Didn't know the Ashby part. Good to hear. And I will never get used to AL. Damn, that's aggravating.

I'm still in denial about that.

Don't forget about the new man in charge

I think Porter is going to be a great manager. He appears to have great energy and is only 40 years old so he should be able to relate to the young squad.

I'm anxious to see how J.D. Martinez performs. I still think we'll see Singleton this year, along with Cosart. Alex White looks like he'll make the rotation.

We're going to be bad, but we'll look good doing it in the new unis

ETA - I hate losing J.D. Dude is great at what he does but I like Ashby and Blummer will be a great substitute.

Also, I'm still not sure how the hell we are supposed to watch games

It honestly hasn't sunk in yet and probably won't until they start playing games. I keep forgetting. Like I was looking at hats on the lids website a few weeks ago. There was a drop down menu under the MLB tab for NL or AL, I was looking on the NL side for Astros.

As far as Ashby goes, he's been in this role before which was before my time watching games. I've heard good things and a lot of people were happy to have him back. Although I'll miss JD in the booth. I liked him.

Can't wait! I know they'll suck but they're still my team. Enjoyed the good times so I think I owe them the support during the bad times. I do see improvements with Luhnow and I really like the hiring of Porter. I think he's a great fit.

Any Baton Rouge people know if we're still gonna be able to watch games through Cox? I know they got a new TV contract (Comcast?). Will that affect us?

If Cox strikes a deal with Comcast Sports Network then yes you can see them. I'm IN Houston and as of now I won't be able to get them on TV. I'm with UVerse.
