why on earth would the government spend so much damn money on something that's going to be messed up in no time flat anyway? What is the reason for this insanity if they already know what's going to happen to the place?
While I agree with you on this point, the OP's example MAY be a case similar to a housing project in Birmingham. It was build new from the ground up, with better quality finishes and style. The application process was very selective, and the tenants live there with the stipulation that it must be maintained and ANY disturbance by them or their hood rat kids is punishable by eviction.

Public housing should not be half as nice as military barracks.

I think they should put them in standard cinder block, concrete floor buildings. Standard kitchen, 2 bedroom, 1 bath. Nothing fancy to tear up or steal, but provides a house to live in. Build the proper "hookups" for if the family wants to buy and install items such as dishwashers themselves.

I agree. The more comfortable that we make it to be poor the less motivation there will be to no longer be poor. We should not let anyone starve or be forced to sleep outside.

There must be a reason we're keeping them out of the work force. Decreased pressure on labor costs?

if its brand new? sure. people will get all pissy about the granite but its a lot more durable than the cheap stuff and is probably a better value over the life of the dwelling. and i dont even think we should have public housing
It doesn't matter what you put in them. They destroy it, and if its a floating system, yes, they will take the floors with them, and do.

There are answers for that. Much of your crime problems don't come as much from the affordable housing people as much as the surrounding areas that are individually owned. Complexes are required to do background and criminal checks, and many do credit checks. The individually owned houses, unites, 4 plexes, etc, do not, and allow warm bodies to give them income. So, when goofball gets declined at one spot, he then just rents from the slum lord down the street who is of the position don't ask don't tell. Now, goofball often preys upon those in the complex, and not that there isn't a problem in weeding out the garbage in sec 8 complexes, but most end up getting evicted or skipping anyway, and then end up renting from slum lord, or moving in under another friend's name and ruin their credit. It's a circus, but the problem with crime and safety is more centralized amongst the individually owned rent property where they will let anyone live there for the most part. If we want to clean this shite up, then we need to make renting your property fall under the same guidelines across the board, and where the retards go to live, who flipping cares, just get them out of your city.

If its for able body , working age people, Tent city would be what I offered. It would give them just aliitle incentive to get them off their asses and try and better themselves. As long as the Goverment gives them shite like this they will never leave that tit.

I grew up with far less. 600sq foot home, with a leaky roof and bad insulation. We had to buy USED appliances, and get our stuff from junk dealers. My family worked their asses off to get to where we are today. frick THIS shite.

Nice enough to give them an incentive to better themselves and improve their situation through their own efforts. Any roof over their head should be a blessing compared to living on the street. If they want something better they have to go earn it. And simply voting the "right" way is not earning it IMO.

The sad thing is they are all this nice. The project I'm on is a section 8 apartment complex. They are all getting renovated and after there done they are nicer than my house. New appliances including dishwashers laundry the works.

Most people growing up in the South that are my age, grew up in 1,000 sq ft or less old homes, with junky appliances and 15 year old cars. It was the way of the working class. Didn't stay that way though.

Wait, didn't Obama destroy the economy? Maybe you haven't noticed all the doom and gloom reported every day on this board regarding the state of the economy. ...But yeah, that 47% of americans not working should just go out and get a job - they're EVERWHERE! I just don't get how people can say on the one hand that Obamacare is forcing companies to lay people off, and then on the other just say that people should just go out and get a job like we're in some kind of booming economy. I know, maybe the unemployed should just hire each other. I've got a great idea for a business, I'll hire people to stand in the unemployment line for me.
