What?!?! His talent alone can get him here. Just think with year round training like the rest of AA players get will get him.

quote:

He could play pro ball as an outfielder

He had about 15 at bats at LSU. He did ok in those 15 at bats. He hasn't hit a live pitch in 4 years. There is a slight difference between the mediocre pitching he saw and arms at the AA level.

Again, his talent alone got him there. No fall ball, no summer league, and he missed half of the regular season training for football. Raw talent.

quote:

get a little more work in and work his way into a rotation. He wasn't even a starter at LSU in the little time he actually played.

CPM had enough confidence in him to put him in the CWS finals after pitching 5 innings all season, BECAUSE HE WASN"T EVEN A PITCHER.

He was drafted in the 13th round out of high school and would have gone way higher if pro scouts knew he wasn't going play football at LSU.

To say he doesn't have MLB talent is delusional.

One more thing,

He was drafted in the MLB draft by the Brewers AFTER his car wreck. NOw, you think they would draft a player that was on his death bed and was probably never going to walk again, according to reports at the time, if he wasn't MLB caliber?

No it can't. Jesus. The dude was a special athlete. He certainly had the talent to get drafted out of high school, but he could not pick up a ball and bat and go play AA baseball. You clearly don't have a very good idea of how this works. AA is typically loaded with top prospects. So you are telling me that you think he could step into a famr system and be one of the better prospects in the organization without having played a baseball game in 4 years?

Look at the FANTASTIC baseball players to come through LSU and never do jackshite in the pros. There is a HUGE difference between college pitching and pro pitching. Jones didn't even bat in the SEC. The limited at bats he had success in back in 2009 were all non conference games. Half of those guys were throwing softballs up there at 83-85 and couldn't locate.

I am sure you know a lot about a baseball player's talent level and potential. Chad Jones USED to have MLB talent.

SO I guess the conversation in the Brewers office went something like this...

"Hey let's draft this guy with no leg so he can come play single A ball for us"

Will he be in the bigs in a year or two? doubtful. But to think he doesn't have the talent (then or now) to make it is crazy.

AAA ball is loaded with TOP prospects. Otherwise you would go from AA straight to MLB.

PurpleAndGold86 you have 2 pages of comments today and almost everyone is argumentative....Post less

This is just an incorrect statement. I will assume you don't follow baseball closely. Only people that do really understand that this is not true.

Not sure what you are getting at here. but he got drafted in the 50th round in 2010. If he would have gone, he wouldn't even have been in A ball, he would have probably been playing rookie ball. You might not have even known that was a level though I guess.

1. That isn't even close to being true.
2. Am I not allowed to disagree with you? Do I have to just bow down and say that everything you say is 100% correct. We are having a debate about sports. If you can't handle it, go cry in the OT.

You obviously know exactly how the draft goes and one day I can only hope to know half as much as you. Thanks for sharing your knowledge on the board.

I guess people are different ... because in a similar situation ... the last thing I'd be thinking about is posting on facebook.

But, wishing him all the best.

I'm not telling him anything. Chad doesn't even know this thread exist.
He's right. If Chad didn't see the he should play baseball comment, he also will not see a cheering him on comment. So what does it really matter at the end of the day?

Yeah because baseball players dont use their legs. In fact
Some of the better pitchers and hitters have good leg strength.

if you want to say he could possibly pitch in A ball, thats fine, but you are blowing smoke out of your arse that he would have had a very successful career at the big league level which is just stupid.
Considering the severity of his injury and the volatile nature of the NFL I think it's just as unlikely that he'd have a successful career in the NFL.

As Broski says, I hope he does find success in the NFL if that is where his heart is at.

Not to call you out but the draft was three weeks before his car crash. Also, he went in the 50th round at pick# 1509... Obviously they knew he was going to the nfl. Still, a few tigers who were studs at LSU are still in AA ball 3-4 years after leaving, all of which are more natural baseball players than Jones (Dean-retired, schimpf- might be moving to AAA soon, ochinko- AA, Gibbs- AA). Tough to say how he would do, a few years removed, jumping straight into facing all guys who are professional baseball players. Don't forget, a lot of all conference players are relegated to rookie level and A- ball.

Either way, this guy is one of the most loved tigers, and I'd love to see him back in Louisiana. I will never forget hearing his hit in the Arkansas game and watching Adams' helmet flying. Any thoughts of how he'd fit as a 3-4 lb in the new system?

he was drafted in the 50th round. Michael Vick was drafted once too in the late rounds, and he's never played baseball in his life.

Idk why y'all put "an hour ago" and such titles. 4 hours later people who read this will be confused.

re: Chad Jones FB Post an Hour ago...

quote:

Chad was a star baseball outfielder and could hit the ball a mile. He only pitched after throwing a few during practice and his catcher running to CPM and telling him he had to see Chad throw. He could play pro ball as an outfielder or get a little more work in and work his way into a rotation. His natural talent alone will get him onto a AA team.

you don't get to AA on talent alone. and chad pitched in high school. he didn't just figure out how to pitch screwing around at practice at lsu.

I agree with most of what you said. Keep on posting.

For everyone else who thinks Chad has a better shot at baseball, he probably can't throw 90 mph anymore BECAUSE of his leg. Legs are key in pitching.

Running speed is not determined by leg strength. Some people are just fast. Obviously strength helps, don't get me wrong. His leg is not STRONG enough to pitch. But he can still fly. Ran a 4.4 recently.
