Luther is good, and Idris Elba is great, but it is no Sherlock.
I'm a giant Doctor Who nerd, so I cast a vote for that. You can get started in season 5.
And if Torchwood: Children of Earth is in there, watch that. That ripped my skull off.

You're right. It's not nearly as ridiculous, and Elba is a better actor than anyone on Sherlock

I actually like him more in things other than Sherlock. That show is so absurd that it's difficult for me to take seriously

Sherlock as has already been mentioned would be my first choice, but there are a few others BBC shows that I'd easily recommend...

Doctor Who
Top Gear
Torchwood (spin-off of Doctor Who, so watch it first)
Luther
Life on Mars
