I think that title should cover everyone....
The Battle on the Bayou canoe/kayak race takes place in Ocean Springs, MS on March 2nd. It's the most fun, relaxing event in the area and it ends at The Shed BBQ and Blues Joint with BBQ, beer and live music. It's a fun way to spend the day.
Of the 200 boats that participate,95% are recreational and just out for a good time. There is even a prize for the first boat to the finish line with a dog on board. It's only 9 miles and last year a 13 year old finished in the "pool toy" (under 8 feet)division so don't give me any BS about it being too far. Especially since there is a beer truck at the finish line... For yor single guys, quite a few young womenz participate too. Last year 4 on paddle boards.
I'm not affiliated with the race in any way, just want share a fun event with other OBers. Three friends and I all rented tandem boats to do the race with our kids.
More info here
Pics of last year when a cold front came through during the race.
Getting ready for start

That is on Fort Bayou, spent a many day during my teenage years on that water. Good times.

Until I figure out a way to avoid the side handles on my ascend, there's no way I'm paddling that far. My fingers can't take it.

I'm with you, I'm thinking putting some kind of neoprene around them would help, but not sure how to secure it.

I did use all lower case so he doesn't get the big head...

Hmmm, looks like there may be a crack in Team Ascend! everyone should probably look at a different brand of boat
I may have to put up a cash prize or post race drinks for the first Team Ascend member capable of gettng to the finishline. If there are any...

hitting hands on handles
2 fixes: longer paddle/work on technique
I use a 230-240cm paddle, and my Manta Ray is only 28" wide. I occaisionally have hit the handles, but adjust paddling technique to avoid.

Yeah, this works, but after a few hours of paddling, I get a little lazy.

I have only hit my hands a couple times. Not a big issue for me, but I could see how it could be bothersome for folks.

I've gotten better, but still hit mine a couple of times the last time out. Seems to happen when I try to dig a hard paddle.

This race shouldn't take you that long to complete. Plus, scrubbing your knuckles is motivation to improve your technique.

Are donations accepted?
Part of the reason for the race is to raise funds for a 501c 3 non profit so I'm sure they would take donations. I'm not affiliated with the race, just a past participant.

Well the punchline was, How much do I have to donate to not see this on the OB anymore. It doesnt really work anymore though.
I still wish you the best of luck, maybe the OB could sponsor you?

Exactly. Only thing worse would have been a response that this was for St. Judes or similar.
Ill go back to my thread. Sorry for interrupting.
