Is there one you can put on the grass and catch the overnight migrating/feeding ones?

The frickers have about 200 chimneys in my yard and it's time for them to go.

Just put one of those square ones, also put a pillow trap and see what happens

You could put a pyramid trap out and see how it goes, but honestly I don't think you will catch any.

Catch them and call me. I'm in need of them for bait.

when I was a kid, we used to put a tiny piece of bacon on a fishing line with a bolt or something to weigh it down and fish em out of their holes. Takes patience though

Should I just kill them all? There's some kind of ant killer that says it is effective against these.

I think it's Ortho Max insect killer

Are those the same kind of crawfish we eat? I was always told they weren't when i was a kid and they do appear more whiteish and small.

Yeah I tried talking my kids into that one and after about the first 5 minutes with no luck they bailed.

I've gone at night and trapped them when they bring the mud up, but there's way too many to do that with.

I need either a lawn spread treatment or a spot treatment to squirt down the holes (other than gas )

Don't think so. These are small and mud-filled.

Some are and some are not. The "bad" ones suppose to taste bitter. Don't know for sure.

Answering my own questions... found this in a further search..

quote:

Well, after asking around and talking to a few folks someone told me that they had the same problem and tried everything. Then the fellow told me he treated his place with Ortho Max insect killer for lawns. (season long kills 3 months or your money back) and he said it killed the fire ants and took care of the mudbugs as well, and he hasn't seen any since..

Hhhmmm...

quote:

Well, I applied 10 lbs of Ortho Max on the man's yard and watered it in after I mowed it on the 10th and so far not a sign of any mudbug chimneys!

I think it worked.

Sounds interesting...

quote:

I mowed the old man's yard this morning and are happy to report the Ortho Max insect killer for lawns {granules} knocked out all of the mudbugs.. No chimneys at all in his yard. Knocked out all the fire ants around my place as well.

Getting this stuff on the way home tonight!

Pick up some permethrin and put 2oz per gallon in a sprayer and give each one a good squirt. I did this in a 16 acre pasture with a lot of success.

Nothing dulls a blade like dirt either. Your lawn mower will be glad.

Cabela's and other sporting goods mags used to seel them as "animal control devices"...my parents friends used to get a bunch for new years eve....this was about 10 years ago i believe the ATF has stepped in since then and declared them illegal explosives based on a quick google search.
