Celtics, Nets, 76ers, Cavaliers, Pacers, Heat, Magic, Wizards, Clippers, Lakers, Mavericks, Rockets, Spurs, Nuggets, Thunder, Trail Blazers, Jazz...
Just because you dislike the name doesn't mean you have to stop using common sense. More than half of the leagues teams names have no "intimidation" factor.

So I was thinking of a few current team names that we are just accustomed to that people would lose their minds if they chose a similar name for the Pelicans.
Lakers - Bayouers
Spurs - Shrimp Boots
Nets - Crawfish Traps
Celtics - Cajuns (but pronounce it Sajuns)
Kincks - Overalls (but they will go by the Overs)
Heat - Humidity
Clippers - Pirouges
Nuggets - Crude Oil
Pacers - I don't even know what the equivalent is
Magic - Tobassco
Just think of thinks in perspective. A large number of the names that you are so accustomed to are really terrible.

Looking at the logo on a hat in the other thread .... mabye Pelicans isnt so bad after all. Actually like a bit better after seeing it on something.

Been getting pretty annoyed by everyone on ESPN calling Pelicans "the worst sports nickname ever"
Last I checked this is a league that has some pretty awful names-
Thunder, Magic and Nets sound like WNBA names
Kings, Clippers, Lakers, Heat, Spurs, Nuggets, Jazz, Bobcats, Pacers, Bucks, and Wizards are just awful names with no "intimidation factor"
The Knicks are named after a style of friggin pants, for God's sake
In the long run, this really isn't that bad of a name

Not sure that the Kings, Bucks, or Bobcats belong on the list. The Wizards are debatable. I think those are all fine generic names. It is not a necessity that your team mascot have some connection to your region.
