I had this exact same question asked to me the other day by a family member.. I didn't have a clue about the current "geauxt" market. This person has the space required, some grazing, etc., but I have never followed the market.. I told him I would do some research and smoothe forgot about it until your post,,,, I hope you get alot of answers...

We used to have one to keep the grass down in my grandmothers rv park's oxidation pond. We used to throw artillery shell fireworks into its shelter while it was bedded down.

We had sheep at first, but they kept falling into the oxidation pond and drowning because they weren't smart enough to climb out. One would jump in and the rest would follow.

They have gone up recently but I think cows are still the way to go. Beef is as high as it's ever been so not exactly the time to jump into the cow business.

Just buried the last one that we had and I can't even explain how nice it is to not have those little aggravating shots around.

I would stick to cows.

The Mexicans around here will pay $80 each for them live. They are easy to raise but need a decent fence to keep them in.

If I had my place fenced in for them, I would buy a shite load. Hate bush hoging half the summer.

frick A COW! I will never own another. Goats eat anything. You don't have to make hay or anything for them frickers.

yeah I have brand new fence and plenty of free land. I was thinking it would be a good way to make a few dollars. The thing with cows is you have to feed them a good bit in the winter whereas the goats you could just let loose in the woods and let them eat down the trash.

maybe Ill try both.

Them damn things will eat anything but will leave the grass a cow would prefer for last. My dad fenced in about 3 acres of thick woods and within 3-4 months with only 4 goats it looks like a damn park in there. They are about the only thing that will keep bamboo in check. Saw one eat screen off a door and a blue plastic tarp

This, they will destroy a fense too. Will have a couple though when I move out to my property.
The latino workers seem to like them a lot so if you have any of those around you can sell them. Ive ate one with some of our workers that was BBQed on fresh tortillias with homemade salsa over them. That stuff was good. Of course you could have put a turd in there and it would have been good.
