Is it really a bad idea to limit the name calling so that actual political discussion can be had?

I believe you mean "animosity"... which leads to two points:

1- perhaps you don't have the brains to hang
2- animosity on a political talk board? You don't say!

As far as your subject matter goes, a few more points:

1- I didn't merely call Rand Paul an arse. I supported that opinion with facts.
2- When has anybody ever run to the Help Board because Obama or Hillary was called a name? Because THEY are not asses they deserve a lot more respect than does Rand Paul.
3- Get real.
