Spike in Hornets merchandise sale after Pelicans announcement?

I'm curious if there is any spike. I'm thinking there will be at some point, but hopefully someone tracks it.

Why is this name change taking place in mid-season? From a business aspect that's pretty dumb. There's no build up to it or anything.

They are announcing the change. Whether they play out the season this with the Hornets is not clear, but I suppose it could go either way.
I think the announcement is being made since there all the Super Bowl attention in town, so there's potential to launch the brand in a major way.
The Charlotte people will point out that it gives time for an even-more-accelerated Hornets rebrand there.

I consider it to be highly unlikely. I didn't ask recently. Last I heard, next season, and that was the consistent message since October, and the next offseason thing was there from the get-go.
Still, I'm not going to say that nothing changed. The story evolved over 6 months at least. Some will assume that means everything `early was just wrong, but it just changed. Could that change . . . I suppose.
Spears reported that merch availability was TBD, so that could be sooner. He also reported next season.
