Way to short change the game.
Exactly. Leave out a completely different back-story for Link, and the Twilight Realm, and an entirely new kingdom, and a brand new enemy, and a new princess, and brand new items (spinner, double claw shot).

BTW, @ you saying MM introduced sidequests. I think you need to play OoT again.

Once you got to the point where you could switch back between Link and the wolf, a whole new game opened up. And even though they weren't that great, first one with motion controls.

And let's not forget that this was FINALLY the more adult, non cartoony Zelda game that everyone had been asking for.

Aside from direct sequels like Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening, all Zelda games do this. Not bringing anything new to the table.

and the Twilight Realm

Light/Dark World concept was introduced over a decade before . We've seen things like the Twilight Realm done before.

Dude, you're just not getting it. None of those are new. We've seen Hyrule, new enemies, new princesses, and new items in every damn Zelda game. None of these changed HOW we played the game. The Light/Dark World had never been done before A Link to the Past. How many 3rd person games do not implement the genius targeting system implemented in Ocarina of Time? No one has come close to implementing Majora's Mask gameplay since it was created. These are games that bring something new to the table because how we played the game changed. Adding a ball and chain didnt do this at all. Twilight Princess just wanted to be Ocarina of Time and therefore felt stale, especially with Ganondorf being behind it all again.

Twilight Princess was far darker than any game in the series.

Not really. Majora's Mask is far, far darker than TP in basically every way, especially due to its antagonist. Honestly I'd say that portions of Skyward Sword are darker, with Ghirhim being just a step below Majora on the fricked up scale. Remember Ocarina when you first step out of the Temple of Time and see Death Mountain on fire and all the dead people on the square? Twilight Priness tries to start off dark, but it fails at doing so once you free the world of Twilight, and no one besides you and a select few give a damn about what is happening from that place forward.
