My guess is he's waiting to see if LSU offers him, and LSU is waiting to see if they miss out on other targets first. Just my guess though.

My guess is that our staff doesn't feel like our primary SDE and/or our depth at SDE is quite ready to ball. Let us not forget that Hunter hasn't played, yet he's more experienced at the college level than the handful of incoming true freshman that everyone's claiming we're going to have to rely on heavily this upcoming year. Also, Maclin looks like our second option SDE at this time with Allen being WDE behind Rasco. Maclin is supposedly not big on contact or something, so that's not a great looking situation from the outside.

In principle, this looks like a very smart more to me to go after a SDE that we KNOW can at least add depth right away if not win the job.

What's the cutoff point where LSU shouldn't recruit a JUCO player (ranking wise)?

What should it say?

JUCO rankings are usually even more suspect than HS rankings. They can be a nice guide on who to look out for, but by no means should they be taken very seriously.

There is no cutoff point, because of the nature of JUCO recruiting. You're looking for guys that fill a very specific need, and most of the time you do you do as quietly as possible so no one else goes after the person you want.

You're looking at old data.
Kid is the #27 ranked JUCO player in the country according to 24/7.

He is a top 100 player and a 4 star.

He is not a reach. Not at all.

That seemed like an unprovocative post.

Maybe it's just me but Brick and Chief have done a "fair to middlin" job of finding D Line talent the last few years. Obviously one or both of them see something in this kid they like.
I'm gonna trust their eyes and $1.5 mil plus salaries over what any of the experts here say. Kid has good physical numbers and production numbers. Not sure what the issue was with him not getting any other offers but it looks like the attraction is mutual between LSU and this kid.

Here's the obligatory highlights.
You get both Hyman and Leslie since they were teammates. Kid looks real good on the hoof....physically built like Sam Montgomery IMO.
Some long TD catches by Leslie in the 2nd one and 3 or 4 sacks total between the two by Hyman.

Disagree completely. The talent is there, but we haven't had to rely on it yet, so the younger guys haven't had time to shine like the younger DBs and LBs.

I don't think my sarcasm meter showed up in that post. :P
Those two cats are putting more DL's in the NFL than anyone else I know of.
They're like EF HUTTON when it comes to DL talent...."When they talk, I listen".

My viewpoint on linemen is that you can never have enough of them. Obvlously that sung true this year on the OL. Same thing could easily happen at any time on the DL, and if it does you better have kids you can plug in there.

Gotcha, my bad.

I still think the JUCO kid is in the eval phase though. It's no guarantee he gets an offer.

Kid looks good on what little film I've seen. Comparison to Sam is about right. Can always use a good rotation of guys for these offenses like A&M, and those games that grind into 90-100 plays on Defense....Not going to blame the coaches for adding another D-line guy, also think a few guys won't make the grades...
