Ahh, the interwebs. A douche on a LSU message board stands in judgement of an intellect such as Scalia.

TN Buoy still regrets how New Orleans rejected and and threw out the priest, Pere Anoine, who sought to bring the Spanish Inquiition to NOLA and TN dreams of what might have been.

He has this delusional romanticized idea of the Catholic Church. Actually his idea of the Catholic Church is exactly what they've tried to present to the common folk since the middle ages to hoodwink them. For the Worlds Fair in 1984 in NOLA, I toured the Vatican exhibit And there was this golden cross with diamonds, emeralds and rubys inlaid. It was amazing. Apparently when the Pope visited NOLA a long time ago, parishioners gave up their jewelry and it was all melted down to make that cross as a gift. To the Pope. They didn't raise money for the poor. Nope, just a big gaudy bejeweled cross for the pope to look at (and probably masterbate to).

Hmmm . . . I think with him the phenomenon may be darker and more sinister than that.

Actually following the teachings of the Catholic Church is what you call "sinister"? And you are in almost every thread trashing the people on this board condescendingly saying they are going off the deep end. You might want to slow down some on the rhetoric. It's getting to be a little much.

actually what's sick is the diocese and then the Vatican didn't sell that thing (at least by 1984) to help the poor. I can see Pope Paul carrying that bejeweled golden cross at Heavens gate only to be met by St. Peter saying What. The. frick.

Yeah, you are right. Probably the most charitable organization in the world that daily helps fight poverty should be criticized over one cross with melted jewelry and jewels. Seriously. What a reach.

That cross is but one of the many ridiculous excesses of the church. It really is sinful the riches of the church. Even on the local level. My mom, who never misses a Sunday mass, was furious when her parish tore down the 3 bedroom Rectory to make a 5 bedroom Rectory.. The Priests drive their brand new cars he local car dealership loans them, go to the casinos, the weekly bouret card games and have a nice life. Meanwhile the nuns live in their crappy old convent wearing those ugly black shoes and white socks and seem to be doing ok.

Leave it to you to try to ruin a non partisan comical thread with your hate. You seem to hate everything but the democratic progressive dogma of tyranny and 'rights' under the guise of bullshite,race-baiting and radical class-warfare. Go start an Obama adoration thread and knock yourself out in it.

The funniest part is that story is about as real as the Lennay kekeau. No pope visited Nola until 1987. There are tons of articles on the worlds fair, and none of them mention any sort of "gift to the pope"

This quote is quite reminiscent of something said in the Bible. By a guy named Judas Iscariot.

well there is no doubt where your hate is centered. We see it in every thread you start attacking Obama But I don't hate the Church anymore than you hate the GOP. I'm a card carrying Catholic. I greatly respect those in my Church who selflessly do the work of the Lord. It's the "money changers" I have a problem with. Last Summer an old college friend of mine died. When I googled his name for his obit (unlike Teo) I came across the video his church made of his funeral in North Carolina. He was gay and HIV positive. He worked at the church doing general upkeep at their school, ran their AIDS outreach and their soup kitchen. He also went to Honduras twice with the priest helping the poor. The church was packed with parishioners giving their respect. After watching that I understood what he was talking about when I saw him last Christmas and spoke of the good the church did. He even had health insurance which is huge or an HIV person. The priests and nuns were very accepting of him. So I have no problem with the Church or the priests like those in that little parish. I have a problem with the excesses of many in power in the church.
