However, since 2008 (Mike Smith's first year in Atlanta) Atlanta has had the best record in the NFC South.

Atlanta Falcons Since 2008 - 56-24
New Orleans Saints Since 2008 - 52-27
sean payton wasn't coaching the Saints this year, in case you forgot.

Sean Payton has been with the Saints since 2006, so he is the longest tenured coach in the NFC South.

Just because he couldn't coach doesn't mean Mike Smith can't get credit for this season. It's not his fault Payton fricked up.

So is Payton automatically going to fix your HISTORICALLY shitty defense?

Didn't the defense improve somewhat after the first half of the year?

I'm thinking new system really hurt as well as some suspended players

I'd have to think a good defensive draft pick or 2 and another year in the system would have them improved a little

Because i'm not comparing coaches. I'm comparing teams. It would be stupid and foolish for me to say that Mike Smith is a better head coach than Sean Payton.

While the Falcons' window is not "shut", with SP gone and the Saints having the worst defense in history, I think it's safe to say that this was Atlanta's perfect storm year. Yet they still failed.

that the Falcons, regardless of what the Saints fans say are indeed a very good team. It's why they aren't talking shite about the Panthers or Bucs on a constant basis. They don't fear the Panthers or Bucs winning the division. To constantly have discussions about the Falcons and what we do/don't do shows that the Saints are at least thinking of the Falcons as contenders in the back of their minds.

This is how I feel.

It's not like they can never win again, but it's going to be harder. This year was a golden opportunity for them and they choked it away.

Good to see the falcon and Texan fans coming out of hiding after thinking they had 2 of the best teams in nfl history in week 8 of the season

You can hate on Matt Ryan just because he is a Falcon, or any other player, coach or water boy that wears Falcons colors for that fact. But, you hate on them because you know they are a threat, and we will be a threat for a while

Texans fans? Pretty sure they are in the AFC so they could give two shits about the Saints.

I mean seriously?
NFC championship game is failing?
They took advantage of the fact that he wasn't there and won the NFC South, IDK how you think that affects the rest of the NFC.

Really because I could have sworn they met a team that would have demolished anyone else from the NFC South.

Losing the NFC championship game, while leading 17-0, at home is failing

well of course it was disappointing for them to lose, but to consider the season a failure would be dumb.

It's the Braves/Falcons/UGA football way.
