Other than the O.T. vs South Carolina, and JOB 3 on occassion (one very glaring example against Georgia) I'd agree but I'm not one to give much credit for that. IMHO that should be a given and it's not there's 7 kids on the bench dying to play.

Jones is still learning his players, and making the right subs at the right times just ain't easy, but I think he needs to find better formulas and combinations.

And he's got to find somethign they do well as a unit offensively, becuase I've seen lesser talent run better half-court offensive sets than we are running.

I'm going to force myself to go Wednesday, but I don't want to see another bed-shittings underperformance.

Just heard Charles Barkley say "the difference between winning and losing isn't very much".

I think that's where we are, we just can't bridge that little difference between and losing. We're not quite doing it all in one game. As you guys have pointed out.

I was at this game and it seemed to be a contest of two equal teams. I don't recall a single Tiger dunk. The points-in-paint were not there but the 3-pointers looked good for a while. Stegeman coliseum was half filled.

LSU has looked equal to 3 of their opponents this year, but just don't have the ability to put them away. It's just 1 stretch of poor play and then catchup. As soon as we catch up, the other team puts us away.

I agree. Thatt's where the coach can make a difference. Johnny hasn't found that formula yet. Frankly, he's been out-coached.

Some have tried to portray the Auburn game as close. It was really not, despite the final score, so that may have been the most disappointing.

The article in the Advocate this morning states as if it's a foregone conclusion that Carmouche will not play Wednesday. Is that the case?

From everything I've read, we will be 8 deep on Wednesday

1. Hickey
2. Stringer
3. Morgan
4. JOB
5. Del Piero

Bench
6. Coleman
7. Hammink
8. Courtney

we're gonna probably go 4-14 or so in the SEC ... i didn't have high hopes for this season .. CJJ sort of got the job too late in the process to really do a whole lot about the totality of this roster .. with his first full signing class coming in next season, things will start to take off .. hickey and carmouche are fun to watch play .. JOB has yet to play to the level of his recruiting accolades .. but CJJ will have us back to where we need to be soon ..

Speaking of this, there is a nice thread on the SEC recruiting board about the incoming SEC basketball classes and where everyone should rank next year.

i need to check that out .. thanks ... i am a child of the 1980s LSU hoops era .. i was 7 years old when coach brown took us to his first Final Four and in middle school when we went to his second .. i have fond memories of those days and genuinely think we will return to that spot again ..

Sadly, because of the injuries, I've become more pessimistic on the outcome. We already weren't equipped to win a lot of games, but with injuries to a team with no depth....

I sure hope they can still play hard, but some of these will be ugly.

We will see. The Collins loss isn't very big IMO. I'd rather a tired Hickey than a fresh Collins at this point in his career. Im hoping he can work and get better for future years, but he isn't ready.

Carmouche is obviously a big loss, but the emergence of Malik has been nice, and we may see some more Hammink Wednesday due to the loss of Collins. Hopefully he can show some of the promise he did early in the season.

What we really need is for Coleman to get back to the way he was earlier in the season. Use his quickness against the big guys and his post presence against the small ones. Pick his battles and make people pay when he is in the right spot.

I think we are still okay, but it will mean that we can't have any other injuries or we are toast.

We only have 3 guys that would be able to dribble the ball out. It becomes imperative that Hickey, Stringer, and Morgan do not foul out. Despite his good play, I'd try and work Coleman into that 3 spot, just so whenever he goes in, he's relieving Hickey or Stringer.

Edit: I suppose Hammink could be used as more of a guard, but he's being forced to play more of 3/4 when he is out there due to his height.

When talking about depth and lacking it, I always go back to the 05-06 final four run.

That team only had 8 players who played over 10 minutes per game, and 4 of the starters played over 30 min/game. Our only backup guards were Tack Minor who played in only 3 games and Ben Voogd.

Still, with our guards playing 36.7 min/gm, 33.5min/gm, and 34.4min/gm we were able to make the final 4.

I think with the loss of Collins, it keeps our better players on the court longer. Now will thye have the endurance to stay playing well for 35 min/game? That is still to be seen. I am happy that we still have Hickey and Stringer and I'd love to have Carmouche but Morgan should be a good substitute for him.

I obviously don't think this team compares to that team which was one of the better LSU teams ever, but I don't think that depth is as big of a deal as long as the 5 players you have on the court can take it.

I know the guards can take it with just Hammink as a backup, Im more worried about the low post guys with just 1 backup. I don't think Coleman needs to move out to guard unless we had no other options. It will still be in our best interest to have him relieve JOB (who has foul issues) and ADP (who has endurance issues). Courtney hasn't played extended minutes ever so we aren't sure how he could do with them.
