Thats not the norm here though. Every County Sheriff sets the requirements and standards for their county to issue a permit. Of the two counties I am familiar with, neither require a reference. You fill out the paperwork. They check to make sure you have no warrents, pay your money ($10 in Madison, $20 in Morgan) and your out the door with your permit.
I do agree with the poster above though. LA's requirement of classes makes it more "respected". Meaning other states will more readily accept it. I'm not sure in how many accept LA, but not AL though. would be interesting to compare.

Huh. K.ew sheriffs set the prices individual. Thought the references were across the board. I know you have to get your cc in the county you reside. Reckon I learned somethin new today.
