In terms of the Canadian teams, I would advocate for the Toronto Maple Leafs...I fricking love this team since my first game in the Old Maple Leaf Gardens in 1977 against a Buffalo Sabres squad who's goalie at the time must have had a bad case of jock itch...One guy yelled down from the rafters during a break in play, 'Hey buddy...if you pick it it won't heal!" I swear the 18k laughed their asses off...somebody is a hundo percent right Edmonton is going to be fun to watch for at least the next 3-4 years, real firewagon hockey, Calgary is without an identity, Vancouver's window might have closed (sorry Sheeper) Winnipeg is fun to watch at home...Montreal has a few die hard fans on this board (surprisingly that I respect a great deal-as is the case when two teams have been bitter rivals for 3/4s of a century you find some fans you just like)but if i had to truthfully say who is the most fun to watch among the Canadian clubs I gotta say Edmonton right now...

hockey is a great sport and the players, unlike the other sports, are actually good guys. they do more in the communities, without having the media cover it, than any other sport. They don't ask the media to cover them while they visit the children hospitals, they just go and do it, on weekly basis, without the media. your kid will love to go to a live hockey game, it is great. i didn't buy season tickets this year, because the owners and players went on strike, so i'm on strike from buying tickets for a couple years. But the game i fast paced, and the flow is great. Not knowing the rules, can suck, but it's not a must. once you learn the offside rules, you will know why play was stopped.

Holy shite that list is hilarious because it's all true. You nailed it man. The only thing that I would add being a Rangers fan is that: a) The fan base will annoy the shite out of you. They are just as negative overall as LSU. Instead of thinking that all 5 star recruits want to come here, Rangers fans think that all free agents would want to come here (despite the fact that 1/2 of them are smart enough to avoid us for the taxation alone). b) MSG for a playoff game or in-division is amazing. Rowdy & Loud, just a great experience. c) The Rangers @ MSG are insanely expensive. Cheapest tickets right now for 2 seats right next to each other for any game the entire season is $71.50 each for obstructed view seats in the nosebleeds against the Carolina Hurricanes in March. That being said, the nosebleeds aren't that bad. Also, being a fickle fan base, I go to at least 1 game a year for under $60 because that's what I can afford.

Well, I did try to be (mostly) fair. But if you're a Penguins fan and not from Pittsburgh, EVERYONE is going to assume your bandwagon fan. It's that simple. Same thing if you were a Red Wings fan in 2001. Don't jump in on the best team that's also most popular with casual fans. You have to suffer at least a little bit. I'll be honest, I have a lifetime of rooting for nothing but ill for the Rangers, but I love this Rangers team. If they weren't the blueshirts, I would totally root for them. Ryan Callahan is pretty much my Platonic ideal for a "hockey player". Torts is the best coach in the league as well. But they are the Rangers, so screw your team. I hope the bus crashes. I really want to tell a southerner to root for the Blues. But I'm not kidding about their history -- it's nothing but a steady diet of nut punches. I'm surprised the Blues still have fans not because I question their loyalty, but because they haven't all killed themselves. Rooting for the Blues is hard. And this is coming from a guy who roots for the Caps and Flames -- two franchises who are no strangers to pain.

If the Blues were wearing any other jersey, I'd pick them to win the Cup. Instead, I predict they will lose in Game 7 of the Western Conference finals. Probably in overtime. Bad things just happen to them.

Blues fans, Mizzou fans, and even Cubs(ick)fans, have so many similarities. Anytime something good starts to happen, they get kicked in the nutz. Then while asking for mercy, we get kicked again in the nutz for sheyats and grins. Which is why, as a Cardinals fan, i get annoyed with many in the Cardinal fanbase who hate on the Blues, they have no clue what it's like to go 26 straight years in the playoffs, only to never smell a Stanley cup, not even a Cup final. Cardinals fans are spoiled, many have only grown up with World series runs and playoffs. If Blues win a cup, the town might celebrate for a week. People so want a cup, we have a Super bowl, 11 world series titles, but no CUP!!!!!

Lofl Man you guys are dead on with the blues too. I remember the good old years with Cujo and Brett Hull. They were an amazing team to watch and I loved it when they came into town.

what happened to the Blues, was Detroit and Colorado There were years, where the best 2 teams in the league were St.Louis and Detroit, but Blues could not beat them. And don't even get me started on Yzermans goal from center ice, in game 7, in OT. Turek with the whiff. Those days are over, no more Larry Pleau giving out asinine contracts, no more selfish players like Tkachuk, weight, etc. You have studs like Tarasenko and Pietrangelo who will take this franchise to next level.

Brett Hull was a nightmare for the Wings. He always seemed to own them.

Hull was a d-bag he was a ME player, and it took Hitchcock benching him in Dallas for him to play team hockey. And he helped hem win a cup, because of it. I rememeber Mike Keenans last night as coach, before they went on the ice, he looked at Brett Hull, and told the team,"you will never win a cup, with him(pointing to hull), on this team". Hull won the war, Keenan was fired that night. And Because of Keenan, Gretzky signed with NYrangers. He was going to stay in St.Louis, as his wife, is from here, and they used to visit her family, during the year. But Keenan pushed him into leaving. Keenean was quite the dooosh.

I think it's the greatest sport. I'm a Red Wings fan and it is going to be a tough couple of years until we can rebuild. It will take a new GM to do it.

I've noticed hockey fans never argue whether college or pro is better. They just enjoy it because it's hockey regardless of the talent level.

I agree. That's why I don't think Holland will be around much longer. Babcock may be on his way out as well, but he can't help that Holland has given him a crap team.
