You vs. Your Dad

...or, for older folks: You vs. your son?
Watching Hardcore Pawn and Les Gold really is competing against his son, Seth Gold. So, it got me thinking about sports and generational differences.
What sports were you better at than your dad? What sports was he better at? Same with kids if you're older. I'll start:
Dad was better: Football... he played HS, both off line and def line. I never played a down.
Golf... I couldn't beat him until he was 60.
I was better: Baseball... by age 11 I threw too hard for him to catch it.
Tennis... He gave it up at 18. I played into my 40s.
Me better than son: baseball, he tried but wouldn't put in the time.
Golf... He's beaten me twice in 30 rounds.
Son better than me: Outdoors/hunting/fishing/survival... Give him a knife, a book of matches and some string and drop him in the jungle. He will make it out in 2 weeks and bring home some food. My idea of roughing it is going without electricity for two days during a storm.
Watcha got? Should be a fun time killer till NFL game starts.

my dad never played alot of sports. so on football and baseball i have him
he kicks my arse in golf everytime we play
he was a marine sniper, so he wins at shooting anything
me vs my son
he is only ten so time will tell, but i compare him to how i was at that age. he seems to have better control than i did when he is pitching
he is way better than i ever was at basketball

Dad: He beat me in golf until I was roughly 25 and got down to a high single digit handicap. I've been told that he was a better baseball player than me. Beer drinking, he's the hands down winner.
Son: The only sport in common was football and he was a tall skinny receiver with hands of stone. I was the clear cut winner.

My dad taught me everything I knew about sports, his career lasted longer in basketball and he played more baseball, so I have to give him the nod, although I had his potential...

My dad and I played all the same sports. I'm better than him at all of them except for pool and bowling.
His best sport was basketball and he quit after his junior year. 28 points was his career high.
Basketball is my best sport, too. My career high is 47 points. I won a Texas 5A state championship and was recruited by some small colleges.

Thanks for bringing up pool. My Dad was The Man. I can count the times I beat him on one hand.

My dad & I only have one sport in common - baseball.
Dad - several college offers, which he turned down to serve his country. 'Merica
Me - one college offer
I'll give dad the edge.

Better than my dad: basketball, soccer and football.
Dad better than me at: baseball, he played college ball. Golf, I've never even kept it within 20 strokes of him. He also kills me in tennis.
Even: it's a wash when we play ping pong, and it gets competitive

Just remembered something.... Dad was better than me at weight lifting even though he didn't lift weights. He was an oilfield roughneck and came into me and Bro's room when we were trying to military press a 90 pound barbell.
He picked it up in the center of the bar with one hand and did dumbell curls with a 90 barbell like it weighed 20 pounds.

My Dad was better at everything except football, and only because his school didn't have a football team. His father was a basketball coach, he played in HS, and played regular pickup games until he was nearly 50. Watching a basketball game with him is like a coaching clinic.
And they never call walking, palming, or carrying the ball any more, according to him. They give everybody an extra step now, and in his day, if the ball went above waist high while dribbling, it was a turnover. They couldn't make most of the athletic moves they make now under the old rule interpretations.
Anyway, I'm a very average athlete at best, but I did play football in HS, so I have that going for me. But if my dad had played football, I'm sure he would have been better at that too. I have no problem admitting it.

He was 5-10, 200. Huge shoulders and arms. And if you're wondering why me and Bro didn't inherit the genes, he married our mom. A 5-3, 100 pound weakling.
I will give mom credit for one thing. She was Spanish and it made me immune to sun burn. Dad was a blond and had skin cancer issues later in life.
