I believe there are 3 different series, champions (4v4, mix of objective games), moshpit (6v6, mix of objective games), TDM series (6v6, tdm). Each series has it's own rule set, I believe champions is MLG rules, no auto-FAL, things like that.

You play 5 placement games, get put in a ladder (bronze,silver,gold,platinum,masters) based on how you do in the placement games and then either go up or down based on your wins and losses after that.

What I'm not sure about is how your ranking works with mixing in players. Maybe each player is individually ranked based on how the team does when they are playing and the team's overall rank is a sum of each individual players? That makes sense I guess.
