Most of yall know I got a new gun recently
like this but without the scope obviously
I've never bought a scope on my own before, my .270 came with a Nikon scope and i never changed it and I dont even know what scope is on the 10/22
So any recommendations? I'd like to keep it under $300 if possible but can go a little over if need be.
I dont think i want to go tactical with it unless there is a way to have some sort of quick change system where i could pop off the red dot and put on a regular scope without having to resight it in... Thoughts?

How far do you plan on shooting?
For something like that it seems like a 2-7x32 either leupold nikkon or redfield would be good and easily in your price range.

if im shooting hogs it will be pretty close i think, less than 100 yards
but i wouldnt mind being able to shoot farther
It didnt come with irons on it either so right now i have no sights

That's what I figured. Get something with the bottom end of the zoom at 1.5 or 2 and the top end around 6 or 7.
Leupold rifleman, redfield, and nikkon pro staff are all good scopes in your range. I'm partial to the leupold because that's just what I like, but they're all good.

I know theses arent lined up and i am a scope idiot, but i have no clue what this is saying...
what does all this mean? power 2-7 vs 3-9, is that the low end and top end zoom?
objective diameter (mm) 11.3 mm vs 12.6 mm what does that mean?
FOV @ 100 yds: 44.6-17.8 vs 34.6-14.6 whats that mean?
Power Objective Diameter (mm) Length (in.) Weight (oz.) Eye Relief (in.) Finish Reticle FOV @ 100 yds. (ft.) Tube Diameter Quantity Price
2-7 33 11.3 9.9 4.2-3.7 Matte Duplex 44.6-17.8 1 in. Regular Price: $209.99 Limited Stock
3-9 40 12.6 11.2 4.2-3.7 Matte Duplex 34.6-14.6 1 in. Regular Price: $229.99

2-7 means the zoom goes from 2x to 7x and everywhere in between. Same applies to 3-9
The x40 in 3-9x40 means the end of of the scope you don't look through is 40mm in diameter. Aka objective diameter
FOV means field of view.
Tube diameter is the diameter of the part you put that rings on

good deal, so the 2-7 power would probably be better for me since i may be making pretty short shots?

I think so. I have a 2-7 on one of my rifles and you can see clearly as close as 3 or 4 feet. They also make them down to 1.5 zoom, but I don't think it's necessary.
They'll let you look through them in the store. It's much easier to pick one out when you're looking through them instead of just reading lists of numbers.

cabela's has the nikon buckmasters for 100 off which totals 129+ tax. best scope you will find in this price range. lowest i have ever seent it. nikon buckmaster

Yea definitely go somewhere with a good selection. The only thing you can't tell by looking at them in the store is how good they will be late in the evening, but stick with one of those three brands I listed and you'll be in good shape with that part.
Have fun fighting the gun counter

Sonuvabitch I wish I had 130 laying around I'd go get one right now.

yeah it's very tempting. i wish i needed a scope. these are better than the prostaffs that are normally 130-150.

Just save up and go with a USO 1-8x. No need for anything else.
Seriously though, Id probably spend a little more and go with a Vortex PST 1-4x.

I have read that those Mueller scopes that are sold at Wal-mart are pretty good and cheap. Most people use them for smaller calibers so I have no idea how they would hold up to a 308. Pretty good reviews though and a fair amount of the broke dicks on snipershide use them

I have this gun and it is sweet... The groupings ive put together are tight!
I have that nikon scope on my .270
Shot a deer plenty late with it. I have killed 3-4 deer since puttin it on. 2 of those after 515
