So, I am currently reading Skydog, as I've mentioned on here before. If you haven't read it, READ IT. My appreciation for the Allman Brothers Band, especially for Duane, has skyrocketed.

Anyway, as I've been going along, I've been trying to listen to some of the songs mentioned that I'm unfamiliar with. I literally just ran over to my computer to share this with the Music Board because I cannot contain myself. Duane's guitar playing on this song really speaks to the soul, and words cannot express how beautiful it is. So just listen to it. I know it's long, but it's worth listening to from beginning to end. Excellent thread. Will bookmark. Hey Jude was another incredible one. Haven't checked out the others yet, but I can imagine that they are amazing. Thanks

I had never heard the version of the weight he and Aretha Franklin did until Hemp's thread. Great stuff

Get both of Duane's anthology albums.

Thank me later.

Also, dig and up and listen to anything by Hourglass. A bunch of Hourglass material can be found on the Allman Brothers - Dreams box set.

I will do this. Oh yeah, I was definitely planning on looking up the Hourglass stuff. I had no idea how many other bands were involved before the inception of the actual ABB

Also, the contract shenanigans were complicated. I was like WHOAH, too many contracts, too many companies, too many producers

Everyone wanted a hand in it. I haven't read the book in a couple of years. I need to read it again.

That Dreams box set is great. I found it at one of those cd re-sell places for $25

Awwww yeahhhhh

I also love all of the stories behind the songs. I have it on my kindle, because Barnes and Noble never had it but I've been highlighting every song and artist mentioned. At the end, I'll have a nice list going. When I'm finished, I can post it here, if anyone is interested.

No worries. I'll probably make a separate thread with the list in the OP for easy bookmarking

There should be an already completed list of Duane's work at the back of the book. But, by all means, post it!

Not just that, all of the influences and producer connections. Basically every artist and/or song ever mentioned in the book, which would include all Duane/ABB songs AND their influences AND other popular music in the times mentioned in the book

Reading a book is one thing. Going on tour and partying with the band is another. I miss those days

Unfortunately not Duane. He was long gone before I was created.

Warren Haynes is no Duane but that dude can throw down with the best of 'em. Not a fan of his wife though ( )
