I remember liking it a lot, but I was like 14 when it was on so that doesn't mean much.

Yes. Next question.
Seriously, though, it's a low key, fairly unique show that's kind of charming, imo. with some good writing and acting talent. It should have been allowed to develop because I think it really could have been special.

Ok. But does that necessarily make it great television?
of course not...but is it really fair to criticize the acting for being awkward when that was the point? i thought the acting was fine for portraying nerdy/awkward high school kids.
i enjoyed the show...not my favorite though

for some reason i always lump freaks and geeks with undeclared and undergrads...even though undergrads is animated...
enjoyed undeclared a little more than freaks and geeks.

I don't know if it's brilliant, per say, but I do think it was ahead of its time. Especially in terms of the story lines and the issues it tackled.
I'd say to go ahead and finish the season, especially since it's such a short lifespan. And Bill really is one of the greatest characters of all time. I think the more you watch it the more you'll get to know everyone and that will make the later episodes better (as well as the first ones in hindsight).
You're certainly not a dick for not liking it though...there are far more reasons that make you a dick.
As for the Wire, my advice to stout is to give it another shot and pay attention to it...it definitely has the whole "tons of shite going on at once" thing that a lot of HBO shows have. The best reason I have for recommending it again is that one thing I said after I finished the series a couple months ago was that it was one of the best shows I've ever watched, and I didn't even know exactly why. It's just one of those shows that you don't even realize how good it is until it's over (although there were several times throughout that I was like "shite, this is amazing television).
I'd say to get through the first season if you can. If you don't like it, then give up, because the second season drops a bit. But if you do like it (or don't hate it), keep going because season 3 is better and 4 is incredible. 5 dips a bit, but wraps the series up pretty nicely.

I ask myself the same question about arrested development.

I watched it and it was funny, but just don't think it was one of the 3 funniest things ever on TV

About a year ago, I watched the first three or so episodes of Arrested Development, and didn't really "get it."
Today, I am well into the second season and I am absolutely hooked.

Keep watching. You may not be blown away but you'll be glad you did.

I'm 3 episodes in. I'll finish one day but for now I decided to rewatch prison break instead

I love Fs and Gs. Like others have said Bill is gold on that show. Just finish out the season since it's so short and you might change your mind.

To the OP: How old are you? I think some of what makes this show so great for some people is how accurately it captures that time period. I grew up in the 80's, graduated from High School in 85. The time F&G is set is exactly when I was their age. And the show protrays a regular middle class family, going through a lot of the same things all the kids my age were going through. It's believable, poignant, funny, and heart warming.
Sure, some of the acting is pretty bad, but like others have said, Bill Haverchuck rules.
Just keep watching, get to know the characters and their personalities. You might be surprised.

Maybe it's only good if you can relate to being a freak or geek
Actually, I think this is a true statement. Most high school shows are about the popular kids, and this show is about the faceless masses in school. And most of us weren't the popular kids. I doubt I would've hung out with the Geeks either, as they show over and over that they aren't the sharpest tacks in the drawer -- but I probably would've hung out with Lindsay.
Who can't relate to being an outcast? OK, there's probably about 5-10% of people who have never been an outsider, but the feeling of alienation is far more common that of total acceptance. I think the show resonates because it taps into the way we were all rejected in some way. Hey, even the freaks and geeks make fun of the band nerds.

that was going to be my guess, honestly

i'm the anti-angus. i believe kids should strive to assimilate and work their way up to the cool kids
Posted on 1/18/13 at 9:12 am to SlowFlowPro
Yeah, frick the cool kids. The storyline about the freaks getting in a fight with the kids from the rich school across town leading them to become big supporters in the basketball game... yeah, that actually happened in my life. I totally related to that storyline.
I spend very little time worrying what other people think. That's because of high school.

I related to the characters in some ways, but I wouldn't have classified myself or a freak or a geek. As far as the show goes, it's almost that Seth Rogans character was the only true freak. Well I guess Segals too bc of the amount of weed he smoked. I played baseball for a bit then gave it up to solely play golf. Did I walk around with a letterman on like the non freaks and geeks do in the show? No, didn't own or want one.
What would a non geek, freak, jock be classified as? I was probably a mix from the three. Awesome? Freaks and Geeks and Awesome would have been my show.
