How else would they get nitty, gritty details and facts?
I believe that their "source" is very close to Te'o or his family.

Well, nothing I've read about the story makes sense to me but... quoting a single anonymous source's opinion with no specific evidence to refute is probably tantamount to the writer inserting their own opinion.

But you can't "out" a source or you'll lose any kind of credibility you have as a journalist. Nobody else would ever trust you in the future.
