Get the long barreled one.(doesn't kick much compared to the short barrels)

Try to get one from the Tula factory. One with an octogon receiver. Much higher quality for only $20 more.

I have one. Hex receiver with a 1927 date. It's a really nice gun...the stock is in great condition. Had it a couple years but havent even shot it yet.

You think that recoil is bad. I have one that has been converted to 30.06 kicks like a mule.

I have a carbine and it kicks like a motherfricker. GOTTA get a butt pad.

In my panic, I bought like 800 rounds of corrosive ammo for it. $0.18/rnd, frick it. When the SHTF I'll trade it to a sucker for candybars or something.

I bet if you fit a limb saver pad to it and turn the bolt handle and drill/tap it for scope mounts you'd have a halfway good deer rifle.

I just got one for Christmas. I am actually going to shoot it today for the first time. I heard they kick like a mule may have to look into that converter.

$180 for the rifle and ammo is about market price. Even better if you didn't pay for shipping on the ammo.

Mine is probably the least 'collectable' of the Mosins,

Considering how many have been dumped on the market, I don't consider any Mosin "collectable". That includes the "sniper" models.

It was a bitch getting all the cosmoline off of it,

Trick that I was told that worked well for me:

1. Wait till summer.
2. Wrap rifle in a roll of paper towels (this is to soak up the run off)
3. Place rifle in a black plastic trash bag. You will have to use two since the rifle is so long.
4. Place wrapped rifle on the dashboard of your truck in full view of the sun.
5. Wait till the afternoon.

Most of the cosmoline will have run off the rifle and soaked into the paper towels. Whatever is left will be liquified and can be quickly wiped away. Caution: rifle temp will come close to that of the surface of the sun.

I wouldn't recommend this for a high priced gun, but I guarantee a $99 rifle from Mother Russia has seen worse.

Not selling it.

I actually would like to pick up a beat up one and modernize it with a composite stock and do the bolt handle change to add a scope.

I put 20 rounds through mine on Friday for the first time, and it didn't kick bad at all. I need to work more on getting it sighted in. It is about 6 inches to the right. I am not sure how to sight it in with the iron sights though. It was a lot of fun to shoot and I am looking forward to going again.
