going undefeated means you are perfect.
Going 10-2 or 11-1 makes you an elite team.

Elite seasons necessitate playing for a national championship. To me that threshold drops though if you're talking about elite stretches/runs/decades.

i.e. You don't have to be in the championship game every single year in a decade to be an elite program over that period.
