Could be from a HUGE pie. If legit you could make some money. Brother gets 3k every year. I'd take that.

I'd rather just continue to be despised.

are you going to drill for oil?

why are you so protective of your mineral rights?

your reaction to all of this is strange to me

what is wrong with someone being skeptical of a glorified door-to-door salesman?

I'm not. My question remains what is in it for him? See what I'm saying?

I calculated it and there is no way it would be worth my while

Still don't follow, if it is so trivial to you, then how is it not worth your while for someone to just "give" you money for nothing? Not bustin' balls, just don't get it.

You mean selling your mineral rights for eternity? I don't know. It might be a good idea to look into it, not sell to the first Tom, Dick or Larry who comes to your door. But that's just me.

Because I honestly don't understand the way the system works. You get NOTHING for 'free.'

If this guy could shop arround his mineral rights or was thinking about drilling for oil then I could see refusing to sell the rights.

As it is right now he's holding onto something he couldn't possibly profit from himself unless he decided to run his own oil well

IF I do have minerals that are worth something under my land, wouldn't I be entitled to something directly from the oil company?

actually, no

In this case you do. I got 28.5k/acre, and the lease expired before there was production, and now I've leased it again.

I don't have the papers in front of me, but the way it works is if the company finds anything worthwhile under your land then they usually pay you as long as they continue to tap into it.

Who knows if they will even find anything?

Why do you despise people that don't want to sell their mineral rights? That's a weird thing to despise.

They are usually the holdouts that want more of the pie than their share and think they will get more money if they wait it out. They won't unless a landman gets desperate to get to his required target which rarely happens. Even then, you aren't gonna get much more and your feet dragging is preventing everyone from receiving anything.

d then again he might be offering 25-30k/acre, which is what we got
Haynesville I'm guessing. We won't see leases going for anything close to that again anytime soon
