and I hope that Hicks would win the job if Will Smith stayed on the team or if he ended up leaving.

the only thing that worries me about Hicks is that I think the our coaches/scouts could have put too much stock into what he did in the East-West Shrine Game at practice that week. Does that sound familiar?

I mean Sedrick Ellis dominated at the Senior Bowl and the coaches were all over him that week. I don't know... it probably is just a half arse assumption I'm making but hey, we're just two fans talking on a message board.

Ellis wasn't all from the game but it did help his stock

My opinion is that the head and character of these guys is the as important, or possibly more so, than the athletic performance.

I think this- Give any 22 year old (like Ellis in 2008) a guaranteed $19.5 million and you better know if they have the drive and dedication to excel at the highest level. Someone as skilled as he could certainly perform at less than 100% and still collect the money. Hell, he has collected over $33million being on a more bad than good defense while here. If he never plays a down in his life again he is set (unless he Vince Young's it).

I have a beef that I thought deserved discussion-

You have players that outperform their draft contracts substantially (like Graham). They usually get an early long term deal to somewhat makeup in compensation (like Colston). The bad part is that when they underperform the team is in essence stuck with them cuz they don't wanna take the cap hit. There should be more recourse to deal with those who take the money and run.
