The vast majority of mocks are going defense, but I think with all the hits Drew took last year, we may see a tackle in the 1st rd.

Right tackle is horrendous even without the injuries, so yeah-unless of course they have their eye on another small school gem.

Marcel Jones early pic for RT.
Charles Brown also can play there.
Will Robinson back-up played in six games and look OK.
I like our RT depth but we have zero at LT.

So currently at Right Tackle- Streif $2.25mil (injured), Brown $630K (injured), Marcel Jones $480K (injured), Bryce Harris $480K (injured), and Bill Robinson. And you want to draft a RT in the 1st Rd? Or at all? Just cut 4 of the others?

I think you do whatever it takes to keep Brees upright. That's what it boils down to. I don't care if you bring in BUDDY Ryan-if 9 goes down we're done.

This is hard, we gotta keep brees up right but damn there is a lot of defensive players that can be there at our pick if we do go lt it might be Lane Johnson

I think our right tackle will be among the 5 already on the roster. Not expecting any change there.

For LT this is all speculation based on the scenario of no one signed there. THEN it is a huge hole to address. Bushhog or someone else signed then I can't imagine a OT 1st Rder. So let's see how free agency plays out.

I do throw into the LT situation that although Charles Brown hasn't impressed anyone when he has had reps at LT. He still has had more playing time than Bushrod did before being inserted as starter. THAT would actually be the ideal answer if he could be ready to be the next man up. They might even risk him for a year (last year of rookie contract) cuz he's only $800K. Bushmaster will likely command $6-8mil. With the defensive woes a 1st Rd O lineman is somewhat luxurious.

A few things that jump out to me on Mike's mock...

-He has Dion Jordan pretty high, which could be a real possibility if he blows up the combine.
-Ogletree before Jones? Even before his DWI the other day, and with Jones' potential slide, I don't see it.
-I can't see Warmack before Fisher
-Lotulelei is pretty far down
-Lane Johnson is probably too far down on that too

Prisco

1. Kansas City Chiefs: Geno Smith, QB, West Virginia -- They have to get one somewhere. Why not here?

2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Barkevious Mingo, DE, LSU -- He has the speed they need off the edge.

3. Oakland Raiders: Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State -- They have to amp up the pass rush.

4. Philadelphia Eagles: Luke Joeckel, OT, Texas A&M -- They will get Jason Peters back, but this kid is too good to pass up.

5. Detroit Lions: Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M -- The Aggies go back-to-back here. He would fill a major need to help liven up the pass rush.

6. Cleveland Browns: Jarvis Jones, OLB, Georgia -- There are medical issues, but the kid has explosive speed off the edge.

7. Arizona Cardinals: Chance Warmack, G, Alabama -- They need to run the ball better. And with Levi Brown coming back to play left tackle, they could opt for, possibly, the best player in the draft.

8. Buffalo Bills: Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee -- This is a big-play league, and they lack anything other than Stevie Johnson on the outside.

9. New York Jets: Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah -- Mike DeVito is a free agent, and Sione Pouha is getting up in the years.

10. Tennessee Titans: Dee Milliner, CB, Alabama -- You can never have enough corners in a division with Andrew Luck.

11. San Diego Chargers: Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan -- He is moving up on a lot of boards and would fill a major need.

12. Miami Dolphins: Keenan Allen, WR, California -- They have to get weapons for Ryan Tannehill.

13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Xavier Rhodes, CB, Florida State -- He might be the most gifted of all corners in this draft.

14. Carolina Panthers: Sharrif Floyd, DT, Florida -- I love this kid, and they need a big body inside.

15. New Orleans Saints: Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU -- He is raw but talented. They need a lot of defensive help.

----outta whack having Dion Jordan at #30, prolly the lowest I've seen him anywhere

Jordan at #30 makes his entire mock ridiculous.

I agree. With no second round pick, we can't afford to wait until the third to get defensive help. They will need to draft someone that can contribute now. You'd have to get extremely lucky to pick up a pass rush specialist in the third.

Also, I think the o-line play had more to do with gaps in coaching, injuries, and the inconsistent play calling than talent. The line play improved immediately once Kromer went back to just coaching the line, but then the injury bug hit. You cant ignore how much Kromer appeared to be in over his head. Out of the 5 guys we have on the roster, theres a viable starter there.

Latest Drafttek consensus mock:

Round 1: Xavier Rhodes, CB FSU
Round 3: Aaron Dobson, WR Marshall
Round 4: Joseph Fauria, TE UCLA
Round 5: EJ Manuel, QB FSU
Round 6: Marquise Goodwin, WR Texas
Round 7: Stansly Maponga, LB TCU

Looks slightly... off.

anybody like Shariff Floyd at all?

He seems like a guy who is starting to get a lot of attention. He didn't really get a lot of sacks last year but he was usually in the backfield creating problems for the other team.

He could be studly but not seeing him projected as a 3-4NT. Possible second DT taken potential tho

Not THAT far off in possibility IMO. I could see a CB as the BPA but others more than Rhodes.
Dobson I never heard of
Fauria a good fit. I mocked Lutz from Auburn in the 5th Rd
Manuel 5th Rd or later I think would be an excellent developmental prospect. He has skills to be legit. He could be 1/4 the price of Daniel as a backup with more upside
I considered Goodwin to the Saints. If 6th RD sure. I think he goes higher. I plugged a small school WR in the 6th Rd
Maponga is a solid 7th player. Tell us about him urintroubl

I think he would be a perfect fit to play the five technique in our new 3-4. I guess with Will Smith's future still up in the air anything is possible. If Smith doesn't come back then I guess Hicks would be the guy but having another solid young option on the line would be nice in my opinion. But it looks like he only will continue to move up the boards....

I disagreed with Rhodes but I could see a scenario where Milliner would be the BPA

After the 3rd Rd I think need is even less a factor. You're just sticking to your board getting the best players possible.
