I think Glenn and Maggie were just tired of dealing with their hair and decided to shave it.
As for Carol...Bitch is crazy in the comics and is a much different character than the show. I was really thrown for a loop when she wanted to marry Rick and Lori.

show carol and comic carol are easily the two most different character compares between the two mediums.

carol was lonely co dependent and crazy. if you haven't read far enough yet, you'll find that out.
i do wonder though in a ZA type situation when the ratio of males or females is skewed to one side if polygamy would become an accepted and regular thing. today's sociology question i guess
