I've had an old long barrel bolt action .410 since I was a teen. Stamped on the barrel is "Full Choke", but there is screw-in/removable choke.
I've fired slugs out of it for decades. It'll hit a paper plate every time at 75 yards. I used to nail small/medium deer at up to 45 yards with it.
Perhaps since slugs are hollow, they compress when going through a choke? I dunno. I just know it worked quite well.
