What's the point of the OT 15 minute playclock in the playoffs?

I can't figure that out, short of flipping sides of the field which is dumb imo.

Because in the playoffs overtime is the beginning of a brand new game. Not that hard to understand really.

That's why.

Wind blows different ways, the sun shines differently on different sides of the field, etc., so it wouldn't be fair for one team to be going one way the whole game with more favorable conditions.

What's so confusing? That's literally the exact thing that the referee said at the coin flip before OT

The announcer in the Denver Balt game explained it. After the first 15 they flip the field like you would after the normal first quarter

Well it's a brand new game

But with completely different rules

So it's a bit of a white lie to say that it's just a brand new game

Just seems like if you're changing the rules for overtime, you let whoever wins the coin toss decide the final format of the game. They can either take the ball, or make the other team drive into the sun/wind.
